Why were Khmer Organic Cooperative selected for the 4th ASEAN “Rural Development & Poverty Eradication Leadership” Awards in 2019 in Myanmar.

Why were Khmer Organic Cooperative selected for the 4th ASEAN “Rural Development & Poverty Eradication Leadership” Awards in 2019 in Myanmar. 

The main vision of Khmer Organic Cooperative since it conception is promoting organic agriculture and finding markets for Cambodian farmers. After established in 2015, Khmer Organic Cooperative has work with small farmers and Agricultural Cooperative throughout Cambodia With the aim of promoting organic agriculture and supplying high quality organic produces in accordance with proper food safety standards, Khmer Organic Cooperative is working in whole supply chain from growing to markets in accordance with European Organic standards, US Department of Agriculture Organic Standard, Cambodia Organic Standard and Cambodia food safety standards.

This award recognizes the success and achievement of the farming community as well as farmers in terms of improvements in poverty reduction as well as enhancing the well-being of people in Cambodia. Which is to encourage Khmer Organic Cooperatives to continue their pursuit of the development goals by sustainable development and strategic planning of the government by contributing to the socio-economic development, job creation, green environment and quality of food for human health

The ASEAN Award is held every two years by ASEAN Member State, which awards to ASEAN Member State as the following:

a.  First Time: Given to Life With Dignity (LWD) on July 5, 2013 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

b.  Second Time: Given to ACR / Caritas Australia on 16 October 2015 in Vientiane, Lao PDR

c.   Third Time: Given to Heifer International Cambodia and Private Sector SentoSaSilk on October 6, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

d.   Fourth Time: Given to DPA and Private Sector, Khmer Organic Cooperative on November 8, 2019 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

The award aims to recognize the role, outstanding achievements, and contribution of non-government organizations (NGOs/CSOs and private sectors) in ASEAN Member State to rural/community development, livelihoods and poverty eradication and enhancing environment through partnerships, and close cooperation between the government, civil society organizations and private sector in development Rural Development and Poverty Eradication in ASEAN member countries.
